Mikel Arteta hailed his side’s spirit and adaptability after Arsenal secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, a result that kept the Gunners firmly at the top of the Premier League table.

Goals from Martin Odegaard and a Georginio Rutter own goal proved decisive against a Brighton side that once again showed why they are among the league’s toughest opponents. Yet while pleased with the outcome, Arteta was quick to point out that the scoreline did not fully reflect Arsenal’s dominance.

“I’m very happy with the performance, individually and collectively,” Arteta said. “We were so dominant and a big threat throughout the game. With the amount of situations and open chances we generated, it should never have been 2-1. But that’s the Premier League — the margins are always fine.”
