'DREAMS REALLY CAN COME TRUE'

- By PETER CRAIG

A RENEWABLE energy firm has put more wind in the sails of local charities, clubs and support groups with a £225,000 windfall.

Orsted ploughs much of its profits into local community groups, including the annual Orsted Grimsby 10k run, as well as investing millions of pounds in local jobs and facilities.

The Danish firm gave £1million to get the soon-to-be-opened Horizon Youth Zone get started with construction more than five years ago.

Since then they have welcomed grant applications from groups to their East Coast Community Fund and awarded millions of pounds.

Covenham Sailing Club was among the latest groups to receive a grant. More than £7,000 was given for 24 volunteers to receive specialist training in sailing for disabled people at Covenham as part of the "Everyone Afloat" project.

The volunteers contributed a total of 192 hours of their time and training was delivered on site by expert coach Jazz Turner, supporting the club to further improve the quality and safety of its inclusive watersports sessions.

The grant has helped Covenham Sailing Club upskill its team so they can support even more participants.
