Homes New estate could be built behind supermarket
Gloucester Citizen

A BOLD vision for a new estate at the back of a Tesco supermarket on a former landfill site in Gloucester has been revealed.
There are moves to build 277 homes on land at St Oswalds that has been vacant for a long time, offering views of the city’s cathedral.
The site for the development, as well as having a Tesco superstore on its doorstep, would also be within walking distance of the St Oswalds Retail Park off St Oswalds Road.
The ambitious proposals from Rooftop Housing also include a park and a play area for the new community, off Gavel Way, that would transform what is described as a flat and barren site.
The submission of a planning application comes after fears about the length of delays to housing schemes across the city.
A design and access statement submitted to Gloucester City Council outlines some of the challenges the site poses for the development such as flooding risk and land contamination, as well as its advantages, such as closeness to the city centre, views of the cathedral and its sustainable location.
