'Potts' of passion

Local teacher, Demi Michelle Potts of Kretzenshoop Primary in George, is one of six category winners from the Eden and Central Karoo Education District who secured a first place in the provincial round of the National Teachers Awards.

"She ensures that no learner is left behind, by curating videos that align with lesson outcomes to send to parents when learners are absent."

Potts won the top award for excellence in teaching natural sciences at the Western Cape event hosted in Cape Town last week Friday.

In addition, George boasts two first runners-up: Alicia Strydom, also from Kretzenshoop, for excellence in teaching life skills Grade 1 - 6; and Ian le Roux of Parkdene Secondary, the first runner-up for the prestigious Best Teacher Award.

The Eden and Central Karoo Education District is home to six provincial winners and three first runners-up. With a total of 14 categories, nearly half of the winners come from our district!
