Top athletes battle it out at SA Duathlon Champs

The 2025 South African Duathlon Championships saw Hoekwil become a hive of activity on a chilly Saturday 12 July, as about 200 athletes from across the country took on the demanding run-bike-run format through the area's hilly terrain and forested roads.

The national event, hosted by Eden Triathlon and Chain Gang Events, marked the start of a three-year partnership that will see the George-based organisers host the SA Duathlon Champs annually until 2027.

The action kicked off early at Hoekwil Primary School and concluded with a closing function at the Fairy Knowe Hotel. Local spectators and supporters lined the course to cheer the athletes on as they tackled each stage, the first run, the cycling leg and the final run, with many age groups and distances on the programme, from super sprint to the gruelling long-distance event.
