Toughest Firefighter Alive SA comes to George

Organisers of the annual Toughest Firefighter Alive South Africa (TFA-SA) competition are aiming to make the 10th edition, which is taking place in George from 9 to 11 October, the biggest one ever.
Garden Route District Municipality's (GRDM) Fire Brigade - the highest rated fire team in the country - is hosting this event in collaboration with the Garden Route Mall and the Firefighters for Excellence Foundation. The mall will be the venue sponsor for this competition that is expected to attract some 450 contestants.
At an official launch at the mall on Friday 16 May, the GRDM's Mayor Andrew Stroebel said the competition it is one of the biggest of its kind in the world. "It is a prestigious event and we will have the best of the best firefighters in South Africa here."
What makes the competition even
Senior firefighter Kerwin Lee-Gericke before a demo of the dummy drag. It weighs 80kg and must be lifted up almost completely from the ground before the drag can begin.
