'Exceptional' family chest goes on sale

A rare medieval chest, previously owned by the Hungerford family and housed in their ancestral home of Farleigh Castle in Somerset, is heading to auction.

The piece carries an estimated guide price of between £8,000 and £12,000.
David Houlson, oak furniture consultant to Woolley and Wallis auctioneers, said: “The chest dates from circa 1480 and is an exceptionally rare survivor.
