THE GOVERNMENT IS planning a mobility infrastructure overhaul for the country that would include advanced satellite-based tolling systems for highways, major public transport upgrades, and stricter safety regulations, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday.

Speaking at Financial Express Mobility Summit & Awards here, the minister said ₹40,000 crore would be invested over the next few years to rectify black spots on national highways that are prone to accidents. "This initiative is central to enhancing safety and easing traffic flows," he said.

The investments will be complemented by a slew of technological and regulatory measures aimed at transforming road travel.
