IF YOU'VE DRIVEN any of the new Mahindra cars at night, you'd have noticed that as you take a turn, a light illuminates the side of the road — it’s called ‘cornering lamp’.

New Honda City and Elevate have the auto high-beam, which uses a camera to detect oncoming traffic and dips the headlights to avoid dazzling other drivers, then switches back to high beam when the road ahead is clear.

Active bending lights in new Volvo cars are linked to the steering system — and turn left or right depending on the direction of the steering wheel. The aim is to illuminate the path the car is about to take, rather than the straight road.
