Strength of feeling over canal tragedy clear in donations

T is any parent's worst nightmare, your child going out to be with friends and not coming home.

That probably goes a long way to explaining why so much money has been donated to help the family of young Delvin Musakwa, who died after jumping into Exeter Canal on Monday, May 5.

At the time of going to print the total had gone past £22,500.

The 13-year-old played for city football club Heavitree Youth, which set up a GoFundMe page in his memory and to help his devastated family. More than £7,000 was raised in less than 24 hours.

Emotional tributes, including football shirts, footballs and handwritten messages, have also been left near the scene.
