Pride joy turns to sadness

A RECORD-breaking year for Exmouth Pride saw almost 2,000 people venture through the rainbow arch in the town's annual celebration of LGBT+ diversity.

However, joy turned to sadness when volunteers found five banners promoting the event had been slashed with a knife.

Organisers said they found the vandalism "troubling and unnerving". Chris Everall, part of the event team, said finding the banners slashed was a “shock to everyone”.

"We managed to repair them as best we could, only to find them further damaged just a few days later," he said. "Banners belonging to other organisations nearby were not vandalised. We took pictures to give an indication of the ferocity of the attacks.
