A 24-YEAR-OLD was looking forward to starting a new job and turning his life around when died at his home in Mid Devon, an inquest has heard.

- by PAUL GREAVES paul.greaves@reachplc.com @DevonLiveNews

Finlay Burnett was an IT specialist who enjoyed nature and looking after plants at an allotment near Crediton.

But he also had a history of mental health struggles and drug taking and was found in an intoxicated state the night before he died.

An emergency 999 call was made by his parents on the morning of June 8, 2023, after they found him unresponsive in bed.

Paramedics arrived at about 7.30am but despite efforts to revive him he died at the scene.

An inquest has been held at County Hall in Exeter. The coroner recorded he died a drug-related death.
