A speed camera is a small price to pay to make roads safer

FREEDOM of Information request has revealed the high number of fines handed out by just one speed camera in Exeter.

A former roads policing officer made the request about the high-tech speed camera at the junction of Alphington Road with Church Lane, near Sainsbury's. It was switched on in May 2024, replacing an old red light enforcement camera, and has issued 3,900 fines since.
The former officer, who asked to remain anonymous, has questioned the criteria used to install the camera, fearing it is being used purely as an "exercise in making money".
