Porro has chance to make Spurs' problem position his own

THERE is no position that sums up Tottenham’s chaotic decline from the heyday of Mauricio Pochettino’s side to their current state better than the right side of defence.

Since selling Kyle Walker for £50million in 2017, Spurs have spent roughly £120m on right wing-backs, including Pedro Porro, who signed in a deadline-day deal which will eventually be worth £40m last night.

They have terminated the contracts of two of Walker’s successors, Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty, and started at least seven players in the position, including centre-half Davinson Sanchez, but not Djed Spence.

They have spent the Walker money at least twice over, but none of the stand-ins have yet come close to matching him.
