SO... what's the lesson for our time from Tom Holland's latest, Pax - an account of the peace that Rome succeeded in imposing on the world after the bloody civil and uncivil wars that followed the death of the emperor Nero?
His previous book, Dominion, was a perspective-changing account of the way the western outlook was changed forever by an obscure carpenter's son in Judea: Christ. What can we learn now from the great Roman peace? I can see a podcast here, one for his fantastically popular series, The Rest is History, which he presents with fellow historian, Dominic Sandbrook. Tom Holland who, once and for all, is not Tom Holland the small actor but Tom Holland the lanky historian - grins. "Nothing," he says, in answer to my question.
