COUPLE REVEAL HOW THEIR BIG DAY WAS DELAYED BY 100FT CLIFF FALL

'I was blessed I hadn't died, but I had ruined the wedding'

A COUPLE had to cancel their £45,000 destination wedding plans after the groom suffered a near-fatal fall down a 100ft cliff in Greece two days before they were due to tie the knot.

In May 2023 Jake Elliot, now 41, was walking back to his hotel in Santorini after a meal with friends when he jumped onto the coastal wall to avoid some passers-by - only to lose his footing and tumble down the 100ft drop.

He was rushed to Santorini Hospital with a broken back and legs and seven broken ribs.

His bride-to-be, Robyn Stanley, 39, from Folkestone, was terrified she was going to lose him.

Mr Elliot was airlifted to Athens, where he had surgery to drain fluid from his lungs, and then flown home to the UK two weeks later. He spent a further nine days in the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, before coming home.

Although they were unable to marry as planned in Santorini, where 52 of their friends and family had flown out to witness the ceremony, they were able to return to Greece a year later for their wedding, which they described as an “incredible” and “emotional” day.
