Families forced to flee homes as storm lashes coast
Dover Express
|June 19, 2025
"DEVASTATING" flash flooding hit Dover last weekend following a night of torrential rain.
-
A storm struck on Friday evening (June 13), leaving destruction in its wake. Streets were closed, homes were abandoned, and businesses were forced to shut.
The rain which battered the Kent coastline followed a day of scorching heat, with temperatures of 27C recorded in parts of the south east.
Dover was particularly heavily hit, with the A256 Sandwich Bypass reportedly left impassable due to floods.
Stranded vehicles were reported to have been abandoned on roads, and families had to flee their homes during the early hours of Saturday morning. Some people saw water washing over the bonnets of the cars, which had started to float.
21 people were reported to have been moved into temporary accommodation.
