Tramshed welcomes leading computer games developer to renovated venue

COMPANY'S FOUNDER SAYS HE BELIEVES IN THE CITY AND WANTS IT TO THRIVE
ONE of the biggest computer game developers in Europe has moved into an historic city centre building.
Bulkhead has moved into the Tramshed just off Derby's St James's Street, turning the venue into an office for up to 130 employees.
Its move has come only months before the opening of the Bustler Street Food Market in the newly developed St James’ Yard nearby.
Set to open before June, the market, located next to the Tramshed, is set to be a major step in the regeneration of the area, offering a variety of independent food and drink traders operating out of repurposed shipping containers.
Despite its name, The Tramshed was originally operated as a coach house and stabling attached to the old St James’ Hotel, built between 1867 and 1868.
After the First World War, it was adapted as a car park before gradually going out of use and by 1924 it had been acquired by CA Newton as an electrical workshop and motor garage.
The Tramshed building had been vacant for decades before it underwent a £1.3 million restoration under Clowes in 2019.
