A section of the A6 between Cromford and Matlock Bath has been closed since the weekend to allow removal of up to 100 ash and elm trees which have either died or are carrying the die back disease, which has left many leaning over the carriageways and creating a risk to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians

Removal of trees posing 'unacceptable' risk could close major road all week

A MAJOR Derbyshire road is set to be closed all this week due to serious safety concerns.

The A6 is closed from the junction at Cromford towards Matlock Bath after reports of trees falling onto the road.

Derbyshire County Council said around 100 trees on a sloping piece of land next to the roadside pose an “unacceptable” safety risk.

A spokesperson for the county council said: “We have taken the very difficult decision to close the A6 for around a week to remove those that pose a risk to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
