City MP drives challenge to address 'poor' practices for private parking

THE case of a juror with parking fines of more than £1,000 due to 'unclear signs' whilst completing jury duty at Derby Crown Court, and a deaf constituent fined while attending hearing appointments in the city, have been raised in Parliament as part of a debate on the private parking industry.

Derby South MP Baggy Shanker led a Westminster Hall debate in which he challenged the "poor practices" of the industry, challenging fines, broken machines and faulty payment apps and pushing for better consumer rights protections for drivers.

Mr Shanker warned that too many drivers are being fined unfairly through no fault of their own, and called for the immediate introduction of an independent statutory code of practice to rein in what he called "poor practices in the industry".
