POLITICAL thriller One Battle After Another lived up to the hype by winning the Oscar for best picture but critics and audiences have a different view on the best movie of the year.

- By RICHARD AULT

Critics described this “screwball adventure” as director Paul Thomas Anderson's “most entertaining film yet.”

It was nominated for 13 awards (three fewer than Sinners) and dominated the ceremony in Los Angeles, winning six awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, while Sean Penn won his third Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Yet, according to the online movie aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, One Battle After Another was not this year’s favourite among critics or audiences.

The site’s “Tomatometer” measures positive reviews against negative ones to give an overall rating of “fresh” or “rotten”.

While One Battle After Another received a 94% fresh rating, four other movies scored higher.
