R500k vir mortuary confusion
Daily Voice
|March 04, 2026
A MOTHER is seeking R500 000 in damages after a provincial hospital's mortuary mix-up resulted in the wrongful burial of her child.
The undertakers mistakenly removed the wrong baby and the subsequent burial of this child by the wrong family, resulted in the mother taking legal action against the hospital and the provincial health officials.
The Mafikeng High Court was told that only one mortuary worker was employed at the Lehurutshe Hospital in the North West Province at the time, and she had her hands full, as this incident occurred during the height of Covid-19 in 2020.
