THE Western Cape saw a four percent drop in murders for a second quarter according to statistics released last Friday.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the statistics reported 44 fewer cases compared to the same period last year in areas such as Nyanga, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha.
Smith added: "The statistical needle is of no consequence to the many communities who continue to grapple with violent crime - much of it gang-related - and cold comfort to those who are mourning the senseless loss of loved ones.
