WATT A DISPLAY AS GARY'S STILL MAJOR THREAT

FAN-TASTIC Wattimena and Anderson (right) salute the crowd after epic battle

Only Michael van Gerwen (76) has made more appearances on the Alexandra Palace oche than the ‘Flying Scotsman’ (68) and he will be sadly missed when he decides to call it a day. But at 55, his gift for unfurling gripping entertainment at the PDC World Championship remains undiminished - and his 4-3 eclipse of Wattimena was a classic.

Anderson (above) squandered five match darts at 4-1 and 4-2 before edging a nerve-jangling tiebreak 5-3 after missing double 12 for a nine-darter which would have earned him a £60,000 bonus in the seventh leg of the decider.
