Sir Jim keeps Carr parked on job

- BY TYRONE MARSHALL

MICHAEL CARRICK has played down his meeting with Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, describing it as a “casual chat” over a cup of tea.

But there is little doubt that more serious discussions will soon be on the horizon, as speculation hots up that Carrick is on course to stay on as the clubs boss beyond the end of the season.

Ratcliffe was at Carrington at the start of last week and caught up with Carrick, but there was no job offer for the 44-year-old, who has delivered eight wins in his 12 Premier League games in charge.

Carrick is in pole position to land the job on a permanent basis this summer, and his claims will be boosted further if United can secure victory over Brentford tonight to virtually ensure they return to the Champions League next season.
