SHOCK OVER COURT LOSS

WILLIAM BUICK paid tribute to “a very good Guineas winner” as Godolphin announced the shock death of Newmarket victor Ruling Court.

The Charlie Appleby-saddled son of Justify was euthanised after suffering from the foot disease laminitis.

Buick’s preference over stablemate and champion two-year-old Shadow Of Light for the Betfred 2,000 Guineas in May, Ruling Court vindicated his jockey’s choice with a half-length defeat of Field Of Gold over the Rowley Mile.

The triumph was Buick’s second in the colts’ Classic after Appleby’s Notable Speech had won the race 12 months earlier.
