YOUR rip-roaring Daily Star is always first when it comes to fart breaking news. Yesterday we revealed that Rottweilers are the windiest dogs, that darts star James Wade let off at the Players Championship and how US man Sammy Morris had the cheek to wear a "World's Best Farter" T-shirt to a court hearing. But it turns out that humans have been obsessed with bottom burps for centuries. Here, JAMES MOORE fires off a guff guide to history...

IT'S A GAS: Professional flatulists, employed to provide entertainment by passing wind in amusing ways, were once all the rage.

One of the most famous was 12th century “Roland the Farter” who was given a manor in Suffolk for his cheeky cheese-cutting services to England's Henry II. Apparently, he was especially popular at Christmas dos. Frenchman Joseph Pujol chuffed out whole national anthems through his bum at shows in the 19th century and the proud tradition has been continued by Britain's own modern flatulist Paul Oldfield, known as Mr Methane.
