Elliott lights up Anfield as Red machine roars again

- CHRIS MCKENNA

NO HARV MEASURES

ONE team had something to fight for while the other were continuing a long goodbye to their manager with little on the line.

For the first 72 minutes, any observer unaware of which team was which would have told you it was the ones in red playing for something.

Liverpool, with Champions League qualification secured and a league title almost mathematically out of reach, dominated Tottenham for 75 per cent of this game.

It was all the more galling for Ange Postecoglou's side that before they walked out at Anfield, Aston Villa stumbled again in the race for the top four.

Unai Emery's side had left the door ajar but Tottenham proceeded to shut it in their own face.

Some may say their fightback at the end to pull two goals back shows some character but it should really just add to the embarrassment of their performance for the majority of the game.

Mo Salah, a week on from his tiff with Jurgen Klopp on the touchline, headed home the opener in the 16th minute.
