SIR LEWIS HAMILTON used to be the fastest thing on four wheels.

But now those same wheels have well and truly come off.

In fact, Hamilton's astonishing fall from grace is now turning into one of the most tragic in all of sport.

Back in 2020 he became Formula One champion for a record-equalling seventh time.

Since then, Hamilton has resembled someone tootling around with nine points on their licence.

He has won just two races in the last four seasons. Which begs the question - what possessed Ferrari bosses to poach the 40-year-old from Mercedes and hand him a long-term deal worth £60m a year?

The Italians thought they were getting one of the best in the business, while Hamilton admitted driving for Ferrari had been a “childhood dream”.

But it is now a dream that's turned into a nightmare.
