JOE ROOT paid an emotional tribute to his former mentor Graham Thorpe as he helped put England in sight of a thrilling win at The Oval.
Twin hundreds from Yorkshire pair Root and Harry Brook carried England to within 35 runs of a 3-1 series win.
And Root, whose dismissal for 105 by Prasidh Krishna late on gave India a sniff of squaring the series, hopes his side won't need all-rounder Chris Woakes to bat with a dislocated left shoulder.
