Buick bosses it from front for his first victory in Cup

WILLIAM BUICK caught them hook, line and sinker as Trawlerman had his rivals all at sea in the £650,000 Ascot Gold Cup.

On the warmest day of the year so far, Berkshire baked in the sunshine to resemble a Mediterranean holiday hotspot.

And as the mercury touched 30C, a welcome breeze came when Buick and the big-race favourite blew their opponents away in a record time.

Relentless from the front, Trawlerman (85-40f) kept upping the fractions to a gallop Aidan O'Brien's young pretender Illinois could not match.

And Illinois was kept in the shadows - as the winner was, behind the trainer's dual champion Kyprios a year ago - by seven lengths with the same back to Dubai Future in third.
