Eddie ready for fast lane

EDDIE HOWE has warned Liverpool that the day Newcastle can compete with the Anfield giants on and off the pitch is fast approaching.

The Magpies proved in the 3-3 thriller at St James' Park earlier this season that, at their best, they are a match for the elite.

And they head for Merseyside with their own Champions League prospects boosted by Sunday's win over Nottingham Forest.

But history is weighted against them tonight. They are winless in their last 28 away games against Liverpool.

And that draw five months ago halted a run of six straight defeats against the Reds.
