Scout leader callout to ease waiting list

THE waiting list for kids to join the Scouts is at an all-time high.

It has soared to more than 100,000 for the 7,006 UK Scout groups – prompting the Scout Association to issue a plea for more volunteers.

The number of kids waiting to join had previously risen from 33,000 in 2011 to 60,000 in 2017 and to 90,000 in 2022 before hitting six figures earlier this year.

Over 145,000 adults volunteer in the Scout programme – up from 103,000 in 2014.
