‘Perfect’ sitcom still a BBC fave after 56 years

DAD’S Army has been hailed the best-ever use of the BBC licence fee.

The classic sitcom was a huge hit when it first aired in 1968 and ran into the 70s. To this day episodes are regularly repeated and pull in big viewing figures.

Former Beeb head of comedy Shane Allen reckons the show was “the very definition of an evergreen programme”.
