BUT MURDERED CHRIS & KEVIN'S LEGACY GROWS STRONGER
-
IT is 25 years on from that horrendous night in Istanbul when two Leeds fans lost their lives on the eve of their team's UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray.
Those infamous events surrounding victims Kevin Speight and Christopher Loftus have been well documented, but remain the darkest in the club’s history.
Let's be absolutely clear. Nobody should ever go to a football match, or any sporting event for that matter, and not come home.
Sport is at its core a pursuit of bettering ourselves and being part of a community which celebrates the achievements of the finest athletes we have to offer.
So, rightly so, nights like that fateful one in Istanbul live long in the memory - as do the years of pain and suffering of Speight and Loftus' family and friends and all who witnessed the murders.
And last month at Elland Road a dinner was organised to commemorate the 25th anniversary of that fateful night and to once again raise money in their name for a worthy cause.
