George off the bench to stun Toffees

- By David Anderson

HIRST SUB-LIME

GEORGE HIRST upstaged Liam Delap on his Goodison Park audition to throw a spanner in the works of Everton's long goodbye to the Grand Old Lady.

Everton thought they were cruising to a routine victory in their penultimate game after 133 years at Goodison Park when they went 2-0 up after 35 minutes.

But relegated Ipswich fought back and deservedly levelled when substitute Hirst headed home in the 79th minute, 11 minutes after replacing Delap.

Moyes admits he would love to sign Delap, who has 12 Premier League goals for Ipswich and has a £30million escape clause, but fears he will be lured to a “bigger” club.
