NEWCASTLE striker Nick Woltemade bagged a double as Germany beat Luxembourg 2-0 to close in on World Cup qualification.

After a frustrating first half, the Germans opened the scoring four minutes into the second period when Woltemade stabbed in Leroy Sane’ cross.

The 23-year-old then got the second with just over 20 minutes remaining when he swept in from Ridle Baku’s incisive pass.

Liverpool's Florian Wirtz saw an effort blocked late on.

The win means Germany are top of Group A, above Slovakia on goal difference.

Both sides are certain of a top-two finish, with Northern Ireland out of it.
