SONAY KARTAL gained revenge on No.20 seed Jelena Ostapenka with her best ever Grand Slam victory.

- NEIL MCLEMAN

SONAY KARTAL gained revenge on No.20 seed Jelena Ostapenka with her best ever Grand Slam victory.

But the British No.3. will not celebrate with a 15th tattoo unless she reaches the second week in SW19.

Brighton-based Kartal lost to the 2017 French Open champion in straight sets at the Lexus Eastbourne Open just a week ago.

Yet the world No.51, who reached the third round last year, was inspired by returning to her favourite Court 3 to beat the Latvian 7-5 2-6 6-2 for the first home victory of the day.
