Autistic Tom gets Asda job offer after Waitrose ends placement

A MAN with autism "sacked" by the Waitrose where he volunteered after his mum asked if he could get paid shifts has a job offer from rival supermarket Asda.

Tom Boyd, 27, did more than 600 hours of free shelf stacking over four years on work experience at his local Waitrose store.

His mum Frances claimed problems arose when she asked if Tom could have a few hours of paid work as recognition for "the time, effort and heart" he had given since 2021.

It is understood that Waitrose's head office told her Tom's work experience placement had to end.
