Travis, Amy MacDonald and Iron Maiden join fans in outcry to end scourge of ticket rip-off merchants

- BY MARK McGIVERN

SCOTS music giants are demanding quicker action from the UK Government to end the scourge of ticket touts.

Travis, Amy MacDonald and Mogwai are among famous figures calling for the Prime Minister to make good on a manifesto pledge for a ticket-resale price cap to end touting in the UK.

The pledge by Keir Starmer came after years of campaigning by the Daily Record for precisely the kind of action he laid out prior to last year's general election.

We were also given assurances by culture minister Ian Murray in an article he wrote in the Record last month, when he doubled down on the PM's pledge to pummel the profiteers on sites like Viagogo and StubHub.

Adam Webb, of the FanFair Alliance pressure group, has been a stalwart campaigner and one of the biggest UK authorities in ticket abuse by supertouts and secondary sales platforms.

His campaign has now been joined by consumer powerhouse Which? in coordinating pressure on the Labour government to live up to its promise.

Webb said: “The big rallying call was made yesterday by a group of consumer campaigners and a coalition of big artists.

“It's fantastic having so many major artists come out and back the case for a price cap. This is a real team effort, of which the Daily Record has also played a major part.

“Their dogged coverage and campaigning has demonstrated time and time again how ripoff ticket touts continue to operate outside the law, and how offshore resale websites like Viagogo and StubHub continue to cost UK audiences hundreds of millions of pounds.

“Capping the resale price of tickets is the only way to thwart their exploitative activities.”
