Workers say overworked staff and low morale are causing delays that could hit Holyrood vote
SCOTLAND'S top trade unionist has warned the Holyrood election is being put at risk by the Royal Mail.
Scottish Trades Union Congress general secretary Roz Foyer has written to the UK Government claiming staffing issues and postal delays are a threat to the poll.
The seventh Scottish Parliament election takes place in May, with many voting by post. The Royal Mail will also have a key role in delivering election materials across the country.
But the Communication Workers Union - which represents postal staff - has concerns with the operation of the Royal Mail and the service being provided.
It says a two-tier workforce model, introduced in late 2022, has created "significant friction and disharmony" among staff.
The CWU claims 21 per cent of new starters in Scotland leave within 90 days and says morale is at an "all-time low".
It also says a new delivery model will lead to mail delays. Foyer has written to Labour's Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle.
