MARCO PENGE denied the Danes and Scot Grant Forrest before declaring he was fighting to impress another onlooker - Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.

The Englishman pounced on home favourite Rasmus Hojgaard’s remarkable midround collapse to clinch his second DP World Tour title at the Danish Championship.

Not only that, he knocked Forrest - who was not playing - off the top of the Closing Swing rankings to pocket £148,000 and entry to the final nine events of the season.

A£7400 cheque for setting the course round of 64 on day one in Copenhagen was also his as he closed out a oneshot victory on 16-under 268 after a 67.

Asked if he hoped European chief Donald was watching, with time ticking down until Bethpage next month, he said: “Yeah, it’s the reason why I'm here.
