Alarm bells over 999 call delays

A RISE in firefighter response times could prove deadly, Scots have been warned.

Fire Brigades Union chief John McKenzie said he feared planned cuts and station closures could increase the time taken for firefighters to attend emergencies to 10 minutes.

He hit out, saying: "Inevitably people will lose their lives as a result of these cuts. That's black and white. There's no hiding from that."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) launched a consultation that could see stations closing and appliances being taken away from areas including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Monifieth, near Dundee.
