Melrose mistake lets Jags close gap at top

- BY PAUL GORST

DIAMOND TEASER

AIRDRIE keeper Cade Melrose's injury-time howler gifted Partick a point after Euan Henderson's opener looked like delivering a rare win for the Diamonds.

The shot-stopper was left with his head in his hands as he let Oisin Smyth's speculative strike slip through his grasp.

In was a nightmare moment for the youngster which allowed the Jags to move within two points of leaders St Johnstone.

Airdrie caretaker Aaron Taylor-Sinclair said: "I had to console Cade after the game, players make mistakes and we all move on together.

"It was unfortunate but he'll bounce back quickly from it, I have no doubt about that.
