Superstar insists coming face to face with Dolly on his promotion tour in the US was better than meeting the Queen - despite the fact the music legend had difficulty understanding his accent

- BY JOHN DINGWALL

LEWIS Capaldi met country legend Dolly Parton in Nashville during his US comeback - but admitted she couldn't understand a word he said.

The 28-year old singer, from West Lothian, was in the Tennessee capital to perform a show but revealed the Jolene singer was bamboozled by his Scottish accent.

Despite the language barrier, Lewis described the get together as “better than meeting the Queen”.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lewis - who showed off a snap of himself with legendary country singer Dolly - said: “I did a little show in Nashville last week.

“I got to meet Dolly. As you can see, I went with the thumbs up. She was great. She was lovely.

“She was so good. She really struggled to understand what I was saying, I believe, as most people in America do.

“She was very polite. It was a dream come true. That's like meeting the Queen, better than meeting the Queen actually.”

Lewis, currently in the US to promote his latest single, Survive, shared the snap of himself with Dolly on Instagram as they beamed for the camera.

He captioned the photo: “Good golly, miss Dolly.”

The trip to the States comes just weeks after the star made his triumphant comeback on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, with the song going on to top the charts in the UK.
