Idowu nets at death to KO Airdrie

ROLAND IDOWU struck with just five minutes of extra-time to spare as St Mirren scraped into the quarterfinals.

Aaron Taylor-Sinclair’s daring Diamonds recovered brilliantly from Jacob Devaney’s 19th-minute strike.

Euan Henderson deservedly hit back midway through the second half and took the tie 30 minutes further.

But Stephen Robinson's battling Buddies continued their cup double crusade.

And it was thanks to a rare lapse at the back by the hosts.

Keeper Shamal George heaved a hopeful kick up the park and Airdrie let it bounce on the edge of their own box.

Idowu didn't hang about as it dropped to his left foot and he lashed an angled finish low into the bottom corner.

Idowu should've absolutely clinched it in added time on the break but Harry Stone made a stunning save. The Premiership side survived without that comforter in a nerve-shredding finish.
