Jean says she's still in pain 18 years after metal implant which forced NHS apology

A WOMAN has told how she was "looking like an alien" after a metal jaw transplant which destroyed her life.

Jean Milne, from Arbroath, is one of 44 that patients at NHS Tayside who have received an apology after being given a new type of metal jaw op between 2005 and 2016.

A report later found the implants could lead to serious problems such as infections and arthritis.

Jean, 58, says she wants a major external inquiry to be carried out after NHS bosses wrote to her, apologising that they were not told of the risks.

Jean said: "I knew from the get-go something was really wrong. I could hardly open my mouth or talk.

"From April 2008, I kept going back to the surgeon.

"He put me under again and cracked my mouth open as wide as he could, it was called jaw manipulation. It felt like my jaw was too big for my face. My face used to swell up and I looked like an alien.
