Agony for McCanns

- BY MARTIN FRICKER in Germany

BLOW FOR MADELEINE'S

MADELEINE McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner toasted his freedom yesterday by tucking into a McDonald's.

Released from prison in Germany after a seven-year sentence for rape, the monster headed straight for Maccies next to Baby One, which sells baby and toddler clothes.

Wearing a burgundy shirt, chinos, sunglasses and an ankle tag, he ate a burger and chicken nuggets with sweet and sour sauce.

It will cause further anguish for Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, who still have no answers over their daughter's disappearance in May 2007.

Brueckner was named as prime suspect in June 2020. But despite claiming to have evidence he abducted and killed the threeyear-old, prosecutors have not charged him.

They were powerless to stop Brueckner being released from prison at the end of his sentence for raping a pensioner.

He must wear the ankle tag for five years and faces recall to prison if he breaks any of the conditions of his release, including telling a probation officer if he plans to move house.

But, for now, Brueckner is a free man.

One person who lives near the restaurant said: "It's terrifying he has been released from prison and come straight here.

"There are many McDonald's not next to baby stores like this - take him there."
