UNDER-FIRE Wilfried Nancy has launched an impassioned self defence and pleaded to be given the time he needs to turn Celtic's season around.

The beleaguered Frenchman goes into today’s Old Firm clash at Parkhead knowing there are calls for his head after losing five of his first seven games in charge.

A further defeat in the derby showdown would see Rangers pull level with the champions on points and spark a furious reaction from sections of the club's support who are already demanding change.

But Nancy is adamant he'll be here for the long haul and insists he deserves to be given patience to implement and fine tune his own tactical philosophies.

In a heartfelt and highlycharged press conference, he said: "Again, this is only the beginning.

"Usually, we have four weeks of pre-season, four or five. I didn't have a pre-season. I know why.

"I came and two days later we had a game (a 2-1 defeat by Hearts).
