A SUPER-charged jet stream is causing pressure to drop rapidly as Storm Chandra approaches the UK. Online forecasters say the system is undergoing “explosive cyclogenesis’ also referred to as a bomb cyclone.

A similar setup paved the way for Storm Goretti early this month, when a red warning for extreme wind was issued for southeast England. At this stage, the biggest concern is for flooding as Chandra drops torrential rain onto saturated ground.

The UK Met Office has also warned of “significant” snow on the hills of northern Britain. As Chandra makes landfall, the national forecaster is urging people to look out for vulnerable neighbours, particularly older people, to ensure they are safe.
